Wedding: Fiona & Steven

Fiona & Steven, Hopetoun House Queensferry - 2015

Fiona & Steven, Hopetoun House Queensferry - 2015

Fiona & Steven shared their love as a couple with their friends and family recently, making a monumental moment in their lives as partners celebrating their marriage together.

The couple had chosen the very opulent and grand venue, Hopetoun House in the outskirts of Edinburgh. The Scottish Stately Home is a Divine wedding venue, which really provided a glorious backdrop to their special day.

When originally meeting Fiona & her family, she wanted the wedding to reflect the couples personality, for those that have met the lovely leading lady herself would know that any design reflecting her personality, would certainly be stylish and with just the perfect dose of glamour....

Ginger&Lime Events Bridal Bouquet

Ginger&Lime Events Bridal Bouquet

Although Fiona & Steven were bringing a modern & alternative look to their wedding, Fiona wanted to maintain traditional elements to the overall Design. The flowers crafted by our Designers had the modern elements while maintaing the traditional White Wedding Look.

The Bridal Party Florals included a collection of roses including Norma Jean Roses; White Dolomiti Roses & David Austin Roses. At the request of the clients we also used the beautifully sweet scented freesia along with White Dahlias.

The overall Event Design & Look we created with the clients was to highlight the beautiful structural features within the stately home itself,  while bring a piece of the couples personality to the Event Design.

We installed Large & Lavish floral arrangements above each of the Grand Fireplaces at Hopetoun House. The delicate white roses, wood-lit fires & smell of eucalyptus created the perfect ambience for welcoming the guests onto the estate.

During one of the first Design Sessions prior to the wedding with Fiona and her family, we quickly understood how important it was for the couple to entertain their loved ones and also make them feel relaxed to enjoy the overall celebrations of the day. When creating a look for Fiona & Steven

we wanted to humanise the Ballroom slightly, such a large space can be intimidating for guests at a wedding.  The abundance of flowers and foliages created a glamorous country-esque look, but the textures & natural colour brought additional warmth to the Entrance Hall, Bar & Grand Ballroom.

Fiona wanted to have lots of candles and lights around the stately home to create a pretty & whimsical feel, we created centrepieces for the guest tables including the her concept of pretty lighting.

We used Matt Gold candelabras to pare with her chosen colour palette of white,

champagne & gold. When selecting the flower arrangements for the tables, Fiona wanted some of the tables to have flowers on the table and we recommended that we created a varied look with high and low florals, again this was to humanise the space and bring that warmth to the Ballroom.

The centrepieces looked AMAZING, the blend of traditional white flowers, mixed foliages & varied height not only enhanced the Ballroom, but brought an instant feel of understated elegance.

The top table was draped with delicate White Roses and an understated Berry Eucalyptus garland. Because the Top Table was positioned in-front of the Grand Fireplace in the Ballroom, the florals on the top table needed to be able to accentuate the bride & groom without clashing with the lavish mantel place arrangement.

To complete the overall Event Design, Fiona had selected our lovely Champagne Sequin Linens, Limewash Chiavari Chairs with Ivory seat pads, Glass Charger Plates & Ivory Linen Napkins.

Entering the Set Ballroom at Hopetoun house, well..

All we can say is that, the Event Design had certainly captured the couples personality!

It was an absolute pleasure to have worked with Fiona, Steven & their lovely family!

We loved working on Fiona & Stevens wedding from the moment we met Fiona, her lovely sister Ellen & their mum at The Scottish Wedding Show - right-up until the moment we looked back over our shoulders into the Hopetoun Ballroom for one final final check...

We only wish Fiona, Steven & their family the very best wishes for the future!

Rona & Chris - Ginger&Lime Events - Photoby: Sidey Clarke - 2015

Recently we had the pleasure of designing the wedding of the beautiful Rona & Chris who tied the knot in the Carmunock Parish Church and had a wonderful weekend of celebrations in the idyllic country surroundings of Carnbooth House Hotel.

The wedding look was centred around a relaxed and romantic country-esque theme with a modern finish. As it was an October wedding, Rona wanted the colours and overall design to reflect the seasonality we did this by combining various darker tones with berries and jewel tones within the florals.

With the venue being located in the beautiful estate of The Carnbooth House Hotel, the surroundings were very enchanting while maintaining the country-esque feel.

Friday evening at the Carnbooth was a lovely, intimate family pre-wedding dinner, where we created fresh foliage garlands with  florals intertwined  to run along the centre of the rectangular banquet tables with chrome lanterns and vanilla scented candles which created warmth as well as that relaxed and romantic feel for the evening that Rona really wanted.

For the bouquet on Saturday, Rona wanted flowers that would perfectly compliment her gorgeous 19020's style beaded gown. We used a variation of flowers to achieve this. We chose the ever luxurious David Austen Rose adding softness to the bouquet, combined with beautiful blueberry roses and rich hydrangea, burgundy astilbe, exotic protea and succulent raspberries all mixed in with Red Berry Eucalyptus

Chris' buttonhole paired perfectly with his tartan kilt- a lovely mixture of Blueberry Roses, Astilbe and Eryngiums

We really enjoyed working with Rona and Chris, who were so passionate about design and creativity. It was great being part of their special celebrations and we wish them all the best in their future together.Much Love,
Sophie & Craig x

Fizz & Flowers

As you probably guessed flowers are one of our greatest passions, so when designing in the workshop for clients there is nothing more we love than a nice big cup of coffee to compliment. So combining our faves was the obvious thing to do when organising our floral design class "The Art of Table Flowers" at our favourite coffee shop, Gordon Street Coffee

We had a great turn out for the class with lots of lovely ladies including past and present clients all eager to get green fingered! As it was officially hump day a few decided to swap the coffee for a nice glass (or 2) of fizz... and why not?

The class was lead by one of our in-house Event Designer & Stylist, Craig who started off by identifying the flowers which the group were going to be using in the arrangements. He talked the group through important details such as how to treat flowers to gain maximum vase life. before beginning the demonstration...

It was then time for the group to get involved and give it a go themselves, it was lovely to see everyone with such enthusiasm and really enjoying the process. We discovered our group was a range of beginners to those a little bit more experienced!

Our ladies did a beautiful job of creating some unique floral arrangements, perfect table decor for their homes - here are a few pictures of the finished masterpieces...

Well Done Ladies!

Much Love,

Last Month (August 2015) Ginger&Lime Events had the pleasure of being commissioned to design & Style based around the beautiful former Miss Scotland, Nieve Jennings for a collection of bridal gowns at The Loch Lomond Arms. This collaborative shoot featured Ginger&Lime's in-house wedding stylist service, which included bridal flowers, table decor, bespoke linen and a petit selection of hire products.

The shoot location was on the Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond, Luss in the beautifully quaint hotel Loch Lomond Arms Hotel. The venue is known for it's Scottish interiors, this is why the Designers at Ginger&Lime wanted to create an alternative heritage feel.

The Colour Palette:

The designers wanted to work with rich tones & shades for this shoot. Of course berry tones, reds and jewel tones are VERY in at the moment. Of course to blend the overall look together we used a touch of gold, which brought an understated element of glamour without going garish.

Ginger&Lime Events - 2015

One of June's weddings saw the Event Designers at Kilconquhar Castle Estate for the wedding of the lovely Ashley and Leo. Ashley was the winner of our 'Describe a Design' competition we ran last year through The Scottish Wedding Show. Ashley had described her wedding as "Unique" and indeed it was certainly Unique.

Ashley and Leo wanted their wedding to be a relaxed affair with their nearest and dearest and to include elements of a vintage Tea Party celebration with a rustic edge to the day with lots of pretty florals. above the dancefloor for their guests to dance the night away underneath.

To achieve this unique look we used lots of pastel flowers including hydrangea, roses and peonies with a collection of jars, vintage style tea-cups and pots.

Rustic cut hessian chair ties, table runners and  pastel paper lanterns strung above the dancefloor for their guests to dance the night away underneath.

Ginger&Lime Events - 2015

When we met Laura at The Scottish Wedding Show in February she had a only few different elements of the event design already in place and therefore required Ginger&Lime Events to bring it all together with a touch of imagination and creativity.

Laura got in touch with Ginger&Lime Events not long after meeting her and we had a creative consultation session speaking through her and Michael's ideas and desired outcome of design.

Ginger&Lime Events - 2015

Ginger&Lime Events - 2015

Laura and Michael had their wedding reception within the marquee on the captivating grounds of Mar Hall. They wanted their wedding look to be centred around a relaxed and romantic country-eque feel with a luxe finish. This look was achieved by bringing together tones of blush pinks, golds and champagne.

The table flowers were a combination of blush pinks and whites which combined perfectly with Laura's bridal party flowers. Laura and Michael had been collecting jam jars to use as centrepieces. As you might be aware, we love a bit spray paint and G&L and delicately covered some jars with pink and gold....and a little bit of glitter for that sparkle!

Ginger&Lime Events - Scottish Wedding Season 2015

Ginger&Lime Events - Scottish Wedding Season 2015

The Scottish Summer perhaps is late in arriving, but one thing for sure is that The Scottish Wedding Season has arrived just on Cue!

This month the wave of wedding season has really cranked-up the heat for the designers at Ginger&Lime Events. The past few weeks has been filled with client weddings and floral arranging classes, we've even managed to fit in a couple of photoshoots!

Congratulations to our lovely clients Laura and Mike, who got married at the very beautiful Mar Hall.

Laura and Mike wanted to create a relaxed look for their guests to enjoy. Of course, getting married at such a grand venue such as Mar Hall they wanted to bring a touch of Luxe and also a more refined look to the design.

We used blush linens, Champagne Sequin Cloths and bright blooms in.... GOLD JARS! Too much love for these here at Ginger&Lime Events.

Our favourite element or special touch seen at the wedding was the very charming inclusion of their animals, the lovely pair both work very closely with animals on a day-to-day basis and decided to have their own pets photos act as "Thank You" Cards on the favours! Every table had their much beloved pets photos.

Other Recent...

We're loving our metallics, Spray Paint, touring amazing venues such as Rowallan Castle and Melville Castle and we hosted a lovely floral arranging class in Glasgow!

Lights, Camera.... & That's a Wrap!

The Designers had the great pleasure of working with Tub of Jelly (Wedding Photographer) during an alternative collaborative bridal shoot...

The Best Scottish Wedding Magazine asked us to feature in their floral section for July issue, there is a cheeky preview of the bouquet we created... to read what we had to say, along with other Scottish florists you can purchase your copy in all good retailers as of the 10th July!

Congratulations to the very beautiful Ashley and charming Leo!

The Ginger&Lime Designers headed towards the Kincardine Bridge to get to the picturesque venue: Kilconquhar Castle, for those that know the venue heading from Glasgow, you will be happy to know that our drivers very quickly got back onto the correct route in time for the wedding.

Ashley and Leo were having an intimate wedding with close family and friends, followed by one hell of a "shin-dig" in the evening of the wedding. The overall look maintained the same presence, which was a pretty vintage summer party with elements of Alice and wonderland coming through.

The colour palette was Pastels, the floristry team used blue hydrangea, protea flower, roses along with fixed foliages and seasonal flowers. The hire department supplied vintage crockery and we finished the design look with paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling.

Our favourite elements (Non G&L) HAD TO be... The amazing cakes made by The Occasional Cake Company based in St. Andrews, the owner and baker; Lesley, really made some glorious looking tasty treats! Such a lovely lady too!

Styled Shoot: A Floral statement

Flower Crowns are not only popular among the Neo-Hippy Festival goers! Ginger&Lime Events Brides love them too!

Flower crowns have been a naturally beautiful statement piece's for centuries, throughout time flower crowns have been used by many noticeable historical figures, they've even made appearances in the arts such as Rembrandt's Flora, "goddess of natural abundance" and Shakespeare's ophelia.

Throughout the medieval years, flower crowns were worn by ladies to celebrate May Day, a celebration of spring! A traditional gift given to a loved one in Polynesia is called a Hei, a floral crown constructed with tropical mixed foliages.

Ginger&Lime - Sub-Hub Glasgow - 2015

Throughout the 1960's flower crowns really made a statement in fashion, the much beloved icon that is Vogue Model JEAN SHRIMPTON who styled many AMAING floral statement pieces in her career on the covers of vogue really made a statement with her appearance in Vogue wearing a spring flower crown in 1965. Many other notable 60's icons followed the trend, to name a few ELIZABETH TAYLOR, & Lauren Hutton.

Flower Crowns began to make an appearance in the 1970's in film, print and art. Backtracking a little here but it was said that Her Fabulous Royal Highness MARIE ANTOINETTE was often caught swanning around the grounds of the palace of Versailles wearing floral crowns with fresh flowers cut from her very own Le Petit Trianon gardens.

Fast Forward a few couple of hundred years.... and we all remember the legendary images of the very talented Lana Del Rey sporting a flower crown in front of a floral bush. Everyone has a soft spot for Video Games or Big Eyes, regardless, that one very famous image of the pretty lady inspired many!

Like everything else in fashion and the arts, these styles progress into the wedding industry, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH - Shakespeare, Jean Shrimpton, HRH Antoinette and of course, Lana Del Rey and her stylist (WINK). OH! DID WE MENTION BEYONCE and her white rose crown?

SOOOO.... this spring Ginger&Lime Events, took to the heights of Glasgow City centre with our very own "goddess of natural abundance" - Rhona.

The Sub-Hub Glasgow, very kindly let us creative mad cracks stomp about their roof with a camera and of course, a statement FLOWER CROWN designed by our very own Flower Department at Ginger&Lime Events.

The very beautiful city of Glasgow provided the perfect background to our statement headpiece, the view gave an amazing urban, New York type vibe, which the designers LOVE at the moment at Ginger&Lime Events!

We used a collection of brightly infused florals including herbs and foliages. The flowers included one of our favourites, Delphiniums! Carnations and Roses.

Media Feature: The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine "Hey Sugar"

Ginger&Lime went all sweet-eyed when the designers were asked to get involved with the "Hey Sugar" photoshoot for the recent edition of the The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine - April Edition 2015.

The thought of an all Candy wedding sounds AMAZING, but of course, we are talking colour palettes here and not actual candy, an actual sweetly filled candy wedding is most likely every little boys dream... However, we are more than sure any other half would sharply bring their betrothed back to reality!

Reality doesn't seem all that bad when you can incorporate candy colours into your palette. In wedding design we have seen many pastel based looks and now as an industry we are moving towards & embracing a more bold and intense pastel... Yes we are talking about Candy!

Wedding TIP: Mixing things up...

Offering cocktails to your guests is a perfect way to introduce some delicious flavours and colours to your day. I love nothing better than a cold cocktail on a warm spring or summer's day, this will get your guests excited and talking as you are out getting your photos done during your drinks reception.

Remember when choosing a cocktail pick something you think your guests will enjoy, if you are creating them yourself don't over complicate it and stick to something easy to do.

I have decided to detail a list of 3 of my favourite wedding cocktails you can easily introduce to your wedding day, ensuring that the fruit is fresh and in season for you all to enjoy.  (All of which can easily be made in batches)

Sophie x

1. El Diablo

Tequila admittedly has a bad name but this cocktail will change your perceptions of tequila FOREVER! For those who like a tangy Moscow Mule, this is your perfect sunny day cocktail. I like this one as well because it contains 2 of our favourite fresh, zesty and tasty ingredients GINGER&LIME!

El Diablo is guaranteed to bring some colour and flavour to your day...(plus it is a fact, Tequila makes you happy!)

thekitchn.com

thekitchn.com

  • 3 oz 100% Agave Reposado Tequila (I recommend 1800 Reposado or Aquariva Reposado)
  • 1½ oz Creme de Cassis
  • 1½ oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Ginger Beer (chilled)
  • Fresh Blackberries (For your garnish, you can use crushed blackberries in addition to Creme de Cassis also)

You can choose your garnish, it can be some lime zest twists or even some thyme but I have suggested some fresh juicy blackberries

Preparation:

Add the tequila to your glass, fill with ice add in the Ginger Beer and then add in the Creme de Cassis (preferably using a bar spoon). Squeeze the lime on top, garnish with blackberries and serve..

2. Rhubarb Mimosa

Rhubarb is the ideal spring fruit as it is right in season. Champagne or Prosecco are typically used during wedding drink receptions, and this cocktail combines the 2 flavours nicely together.

decoratorsnotebook.co.uk

decoratorsnotebook.co.uk

- 4 Rhubarb stalks cut to smaller pieces
- 1 Cup of Sugar
- 1 Mint Sprig
- Bottle of Prosecco

Preparation:

Combine the Rhubarb, Sugar and 2 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring to the boil over a medium heat for about 10 mins, stir occasionally until the Rhubarb begins to break down. Remove the pan from the heat, add the mint and allow it to sit for 1 minute. At this point you should strain the mixture, which should be syrupy. Return the pan to the cooker and cook until slightly reduced. Cover mixture and refrigerate until it is cool.

Divide the mixture between 6-8 champagne glasses, top with prosecco and serve....Ahhhh!

3. Traditional Pimms No1 Cup

I have had this drink at numerous weddings and I must say, it goes down a treat. A Pimms is your perfect British Summer drink. A gin based liquor with hints of citrus

Pinterest.com

Pinterest.com

This drink is made up of 1 part Pimms and 2 parts lemonade. Top it off with slices of lemon, orange, apple, cucumber (these can be as chunky as you like) and a sprig of mint....aaand serve. Simple.

Enjoy!

A Beautiful Start to 2015!

When we first met Linzi and her family at The Scottish Wedding Show last year she fell in love with the Ginger&Lime stand, if we remember correctly her words were "This is it, this is what I want for my day" before taking photos and pinning them to her Pinterest Board.

After meeting the very lovely Linzi again with her Mum Mary in a private Consult Run-Through we were able to craft a look around the couple and the overall day.

Linzi & Scott's wedding took place at the very lovely picturesque hotel; The Roman Camp Hotel and they wanted the venue to have a romantic & elegant look while maintaining a warm, country-esque feel. We achieved this by combining rich tones with blush pinks and foliages with the flowers and had candles burning anywhere possible.  The venue had their traditional open lit fires burning for guests, which as you can imagine really set the scene & the smell was amazing.

Because the time of year the ballroom at the Roman Camp was slightly on the dark side and Linzi wanted lots of candle light on the tables, she choose traditional candelabras for each table with a natural flower arrangements centred.

The candlelight around the room really made a massive impact on the atmosphere along with the practicality of the additional lighting for guests to see the beautiful dress she was wearing, of course also to see the dashing Scott in his kilt.

The overall colour palette they had chosen was blush pink, as seen above the bridesmaids wore stunning blush pink gowns; we used touches of blush pink along with some darker shades to complete the event design look.

Linzi's Mum, Mary LOVED Amaranthus and we used this in all of the centrepieces along with using some on the top table, obviously the fabulous Mary was given her very own mini flower arrangement at her setting on the top table.

We had a fantastic weekend getting acquainted  with lots of beautiful brides and very charming, may we also say, very dashing grooms! It is always such a pleasure for our Designers to discuss weddings, after all - we live, eat & breathe all things wedding! Our Designers finished the show walking away very pleased with the amount of creativity that clients wish to infuse into their wedding.

If you have read our previous blog “The future is gold” you will know that we are heavily inspired by the "Golden Era" on Wedding Design. Gold has infused itself into the very fabrics of wedding design recently, especially here at Ginger&Lime Events. Naturally our designers, with a love of fresh green foliage, sprayed lots of gorgeous eucalyptus in GOLD. Adding decadency and timelessness to our table with our hand-carved gold-wash candleholders and a fine crystal candelabra in the centre for that extra WOW factor!

Ginger&Lime SECC Wedding Show

Bringing colour & character to the table is important in wedding design, and with that in mind we draped our table in our bespoke mint green, luxury sequined linen. Our pretty petit pink wine glasses added a cutesy feel to our table, without going overly girlie and helped bring out the colours from afar, toned down with our beige bespoke linen napkins.

Our floral choice for our stand included lots of corals, blush pinks, creams and violets which certainly drew the eye, in typical Ginger&Lime style there was lots of fresh green foliage for those wanting to bring the outdoors in! Flowers featured included: Veronica's, Asparagus Foliage, Selection of Roses, Protea Flower, Candy Pink Ranunculus, Freesia & to blend.

The Golden Rules.... of Event Design, go tall, go grand & go Gold baby!

Many of the visitors asked us what it was exactly that we did, and the answer: We do it all! Ginger&Lime boasts in-house our Hire Department, Floral Department & of course, our exclusive Design Department. Everything on display we can provide for your day. We are always happy to offer planning services for those clients seeking someone who is able to organise a spectacular, as our designers are degree graduates in Event Management.

Our designers were so happy with the results and response from the show. Craig, who leads the design and floral department admitted his ego was a little on the larger side while walking out of the show, and we don’t blame him! It was great speaking to some familiar faces who came back to see us and some new faces who were taken aback with our designs.

At 4.55pm on the Sunday afternoon, we were approached by a family searching for “The Gorgeous Mint Green Table” for two whole hours around the show….We are really glad you found us!

Much Love,

G&Lx

Media Feature: A Feature To Remember

The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine - January 2015

The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine - January 2015

Being an Event Designer can be a very rewarding job, especially when you are working closely with wedding clients and it was a great pleasure to have been included in this seasons - The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine. As a mad creative & visionary I am always recommending ways to bring elements of design into my clients, friends & families lives, whether this be fashion, home interior, creating food dishes or most importantly designing for my wedding clients. To have represented Ginger&Lime Events within the feature was a  great honour as I was able to share some top tip ideas for creating the Ginger&Lime Look - "Lavishly Rustic".

The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine - January 2015 - Page 290 (Ginger&Lime Events)

The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine - January 2015 - Page 290 (Ginger&Lime Events)

The look featured was the current Ginger&Lime S/S 15 Wedding Look, which images can be found all over the Ginger&Lime website, look books & marketing materials. When designing the look we wanted to bring a fresh take on the very popular rustic look, by introducing a more sophisticated, opulent luxe feel.

To create the look you don't have to over spend, a lavishly rustic feel can be crafted by adding a few additional textures & colours to the table.  For fabrics: We had chosen whites, greys, champagnes, blues & violets as our colour palette, however this look could be created by using a whole load of colour Palettes - perhaps pastels, bright colours, metallics and traditional white/ivory to name a few.

Adding fabrics to your wedding may seem like an expensive option; however there are always options for any budget. I am always happy to source fabric options for my clients or if they find something they love I am able to organise the table garments to be created by our seamstress.

For Ginger&Lime Events to have been featured in a leading wedding magazine, was truly fabulous for the brand. We work hard to create remarkable event design & being able to share our style with those getting married was something of a rare treat! Thank You Best Scottish Wedding Magazine x

Believe it or not, you can actually have large & tall beautiful flower arrangements while still keeping the rustic charming feel. Lots of foliage's create a natural luxe feel and will most certainly impress anyone that walks into the wedding space.

For those of you that don't like greenery, DON'T PANIC! simplistic florals such as all Hydrangea or lots of Eryngiums look very beautiful... To conclude with any tips on table flowers, as always....

Go Big & Grand Baby!

Of course, I must take this opportunity to thank Tandem Photo once again for their AMAZING collaboration with Ginger&Lime Events. You can read our blog feature on the Lavishly Rustic Look and about our collaboration with Tandem Photo on our blog, titled: Our Collaboration with Tandem Photo.

All I can really advise is that you open-up your mind when designing for your wedding, this is a once is a life time opportunity to really put a stamp of your style on a very important celebration. Understandably Event Design is not one of the most important factors of the day... Love & commitment is, however- regardless of what you believe, applying design to your environment really creates a feel of what you aim to be in life, everyday we do it as humans, buy certain clothes, certain foods and certain interiors.. . I mean, we really do live our lives in some element of design and being able to craft a look in one of the most special days of your life is important, as it gels the expressions of peoples inner-selves, in this case yours & your partners style.

To conclude... Enjoy crafting a look around you both, be adventuress, have fun, find only the best suppliers to work with (Cough Cough!), look beyond what is expected at weddings (The wedding market is changing, be inspired) & last but most certainly not least; express your inner-selves! Let your guests see some of your soul.

Thank you Beth and the team at The Best Scottish Weddings Magazine (www.bestscottishweddings.com) for making this A Feature to Remember at Ginger&Lime Events. We look forward to working with you again at some point in the future.

For those of you getting married, you can pick up a copy in most good retailers or subscirbe online! http://bestscottishweddings.com/make-sure-you-dont-miss-an-issue/

Choosing Your First Dance Song?

Ginger&Lime Events

So this week Mr Gary Barlow announced he would sing at the wedding of 5 devoted (and very lucky!) fans promising it to be the Greatest Day of their lives (excuse the pun). So on that note I decided to write a little post about First Dance songs.

Your first dance should symbolise the love and connection that you share. Learning to dance not only teaches you and your loved one how to move together but also teaches you to be gracious with one another.

I've came up with a list of my top 10 favourite first dance songs, something a little bit different from the overplayed "Amazed" by Lonestar and "Marry You" -Bruno Mars tracks.

This list is a little eclectic (but so is my music taste!)

  1. Stay with You - John Legend
  2. To Build a Home - The Cinematic Orchestra
  3. Someone like You - Van Morrison
  4. The Wonder of You - Elvis Presley
  5. In Love With You - Erykah Badu ft Stephen Marley
  6. Ave Maria - Beyonce
  7. The Luckiest - Ben Folds
  8. My Baby Just Cares for Me - Nina Simone
  9. You're Still the One - Shania Twain
  10. Never Let Me Go - Florence + The Machine

Embrace the Festive Season like a Designer

Designers touch this festive season - 2014

Designers touch this festive season - 2014

During December the festive feel gets more&more ALIVE! I notice some of my friends & Family get stressed with the pressure of the festive season, however I personally feel we have to embrace the magical happenings during the lead up-to Christmas and Chanukah! The design visuals, smells and flavours of December really make the end of another year worth while!

Some of the design elements we work with at Ginger&Lime in weddings can be adapted to the home, I personally get excited when it's time to light the fire, hang a garland, pin the stockings up & pop a wee wreath on the front door! Of course while this is all happening I MUST MUST MUST! have a pot of mulled wine brewing on the stove, of course this helps take all the stress away from preparing the home for those loved ones visiting.

Pugs are allowed personalised stockings too

Pugs are allowed personalised stockings too

A few simple D.I.Y tricks that will bring the festive season into your home this winter, which will assist you Embrace the Festive Season like a Designer...

The festive smell...

Sliced clementines placed on a fancy bowl and displayed on the coffee table will create a very festive scent around the home. After a couple of days the clementines will begin to dry-out, which should be fine as they will continue to give the festive aroma and continue to look great as a decoration on their own!

If you are fortunate enough to have an a wood burning fire then pop some cinnamon sticks into the flames, they will begin to smoke and burn while leaving the aroma of festivity behind!

For those without a wood or coal burning fire, I would recommend cooking a batch of fresh cinnamon sticks with Cardamom & Cherries in water until they boil. Strain the liquid and pop into a spray bottle to create a festive room mist.

The Festive Look...

In my home I decorate the fireplace with a festive garland, this is pretty simple to achieve when making a small one for the home, you can purchase them pre-made, however I would recommend you pop into the garden or local park and prune some conifer branches and string/wire together.

By adding some sliced clementines, pussy willow, festive ribbons or even something a little more sparkly will really open-up the room and WOW your guests over the festive season.

personalised stockings are a perfect finishing touch for the festive look & are great for everyone in the family!  Over the festive season I am not ashamed to admit that I most certainly have one, along with my beautiful little Pug Stella! When ordering one, this should be done no later than the beginning of December as companies get overly busy!

Festive Flavours...

Craig's Mulled Wine:

A little more flavourful, stronger alcohol content and a touch more zesty!
  • 2 x Bottles of Tempranillo Red
  • 80g Demerara Sugar
  • 2/3 x clémentines (sliced)
  • Pinch of Nutmeg
  • Pinch of Clove
  • 3 x Slices of fresh Ginger
  • 3 x Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 x Zest of Lime
  • 1 x Table Spoon of Treacle
  • A good pour of Cointreau
  • Handful of Cherries

Heat the sugar & treacle in the pan on a LOW heat, after a few minuets add the bottles of red wine and stir. Add all other ingredients and rapidly bring to the boil, once boiling turn to low heat immediately as the alcohol will begin to flame! Sometimes I personally add a little extra glug of cointreau once the alcohol has burned off to get that kick! Simmer for 20mins and then ENJOY!!! but don't drive...

Remember to have fun this festive season and don't get stressed, it really isn't worth it! This is a time to reflect our yearly achievements and enjoy the company of those closest to our hearts!

Of course, it's also a time to enjoy good food, be a little creative and have FUN!

I hope that my home ideas can give you some inspiration for bringing the festive look, smell and flavour into your home!

The great thing about using fresh products for decoration, is that you can cut these from your own back garden!

I hope you have fun creating a look suited around your home! For those that make my mulled wine, I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Much love,

Instaglam your wedding...

There is no doubt that I am addicted to social media, it can get a little unhealthy at times. Social Media however has became an integral part of daily life whether we like it or not...it's here to stay.

Within weddings social media usage has seen a drastic rise over the past few years with more and more brides seeking wedding day inspiration through blogs and various other online platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram.

Below I have shared some fun nstagram uses for your wedding day and how you and your guests can use them to create some long lasting memories.

Instagram, our most loved photo sharing app, is a perfect way for collecting all the guests snaps and collating them into one search. Using a hashtag # for couple allows guests to upload photos instantly 'capturing the moment' using a customised hashtag #kimandkanye2014 for example. This method of customising your hashtag # allows all the photos to be stored in one place, to sit back and enjoy at a later date.

If you aren't too keen on the hashtag idea you can always create a wedding instagram profile which your guests can follow and see updates of what's been happening in the run-up and on your special day!

Once you have created your hashtag #kimandkanye2014, let your guests know so they can add photos and get involved, you could do this by adding it onto the invites, cards to hand out at the ceremony, alternatively you can incorporate it into your event design, many couples nowadays have framed signs which allow guests to see what hashtag to use for the wedding day.

Another quirky idea for wedding props is the personalised Instagram frame which is popping up all over pinterest recently,. These are fun frames which allow guests to take photos from, it also highlights the hashtag for your guests to use and shows you are social media savvy!

My Love for a Statement Piece....

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

Currently in fashion statement pieces are "very in" at the moment, from jewellery, to shoes & bridal wear, statements are being MADE HUNNI! Whether this includes sequins, large feature pendants or carefully constructed hair do's, statement items & styles are appearing everywhere and this should be remembered when it comes to your Event Design.

My personal love for staircase garlands & Fireplace statement pieces is forever becoming an endless love affair. These statement pieces are a look that can be altered & crafted around the season, traditionally they are seen as being A/W looks, however I would highly disagree, as they look truly amazing come rain, snow, wind or heat waves!

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

If one of the Ginger&Lime Clients were to ask my colleague or myself how to create an instant statement at their chosen venue, before we could think we would most likely scream GARLAND! (Of course, during a consultation the screaming would be contained).

The photographs attached, are from a piece I recently worked on for a boutique country manor house hotel. Prior to installing our statement piece the fireplace looked wonderful, however the lobby felt a tad gloomy and required something to uplift the space. I chose seasonal colours (Reds, Oranges, Ever Green & Berries) & based the size of the statement piece on the proportions of the overall fireplace.

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

The piece was a mashup of a mantel place piece and side garlands, a combination that provided a truly indulgent look. From the feedback Ginger&Lime received, practically everyone that entered the premises had a moment of jaw droppingness (OK, I made up a word but I don't care), which of course was my aim when creating the look, after all My Love for a Statement Piece has originated from the concept that most drama queens have.... AN ENTRANCE DARLING!

Making any statement whether this being fashion, interior design or event design there can be a boarder line, which you do not want to cross... OVER KILL!

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

Designed by Ginger&Lime Events - 2014

Be adventurous but reign-in timeless class for the finishing touches, there are two types of statement entrances...

1/ Classy, elegant & beautiful (Angelina Jolie Style ;) )

2/ Over the top, tacky & just plain sl**ty (you know, Kesha style!).

Stole The Show....

The Scottish Wedding Show - October 2014

The Scottish Wedding Show - October 2014

The Ginger&Lime Designers love to show-off their skills and expertise in event design and there is no better place to exhibit that creativity other than one of the UK's largest wedding showcases!

Ginger&Lime events had such a wonderful time meeting new clients and making the acquaintance of colleagues within the wedding sector, that we thought we would share some of our best images captured at the show. (After Text)

Ginger&Lime In Production - The Scottish Wedding Show - SECC - October 2014

The Designers took inspiration from a wide range of current trends and added the Ginger&Lime finishing touches. Inspiration for the stand all started with the idea of creating an enchanting, romantic modern fairy tail look, which of course, had to be elegant, alternative, lavish and overly indulgent. We began with a simple palette of colour, this being tones of pink & champagne.

As you can see we arrived at the SECC to a plain white exhibition shell & this was when the magic began to happen! The Designers knew that in order to achieve the overall look, a full scale floral wall was required and we must say ourselves, it really did give a modern Kim K fairy tail look.

Our hire department dusted off & polished-up our gorgeous fine cut crystal candelabras and white stained candle holders to achieve a combination of rustic & elegance. Every princess knows that a little glamour is always required for those extra special events, Ginger&Lime played princess for the weekend and draped the table with our exclusive champagne sequin cloths.

No Ginger&Lime look would be complete without specially selected seasonal flowers, to maintain the overall theme the Designers choose a selection of pinks, raspberries, whites and to complete the look, lots of mixed foliages.

The flowers featured included: Soft Pink Hydrangea,"Blueberry" Roses, "Cupcake" Roses, Blush Pink Roses, Pink Calla Lilies, Mixed Carnations, Pink Gladioli and Seasonal Berries.

The stand design was designed to give our clients an opportunity to flair their inner creativity, our Event Designers love to work closely with all of our clients and create a look crafted around their personality and style.

The best memory for The Designers of the wedding show, was getting to meet and talk with new clients! The Ginger&Lime team will also admit they rather enjoyed the positive feedback regarding the design from clients and colleagues within the industry, not to brag but it felt as if we had "Stole The Show"  To quote a few -
